Girl Scout booth at Emory University

Baikal's Girl Scout troop had a cookie booth at Emory today. Matt and I were freshman there 20 years ago!!!  I had arranged for the girls to meet with an admissions counselor (also former Emory Alumni and former Miller babysitter) to learn about what college is and what it can offer girls.  The girls enjoyed selling cookies at the Dobbs University Center.  I ran into my old Sophmore Resident Assistant who has been employed with the University 17 years!  I even managed to sneak into my old freshman dorm and leave a few boxes of cookies for those freshmen in my old room.  Wonderful day!

Pinewood Derby Day for Rybolt

Rybolt participated in a Boy Scout Pinewood Derby race. They boys get a basic wooden block and wheels and use their creativity and engineering skills to turn it into a race car.  His car is number 12. We had fun watching the races!

A day in the park

We woke up to a beautiful spring day in Grant Park. Baikal, Rybolt, and I went for a bike ride. As we rode by the zoo entrance, we decided to stop in and see the animals. We had a fun time.

Me

A friend took this photo of Garvin and me when I was watching the kids in the book parade and sent it to me over the weekend.  Lovely!

School Book Parade

It is that time of year! The annual Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School book parade. Each year, every class at the Elementary school picks a book. Then they make costumes and do a little parade around the school. This year, Baikal's class (Mr. Carter) picked Greek Gods and Goddesses. Baikal dressed as Athena. Rybolt's class picked the book, Bony-Legs. He dressed as a cat.

Walk to School Day

Today, Friday March 6, we participated in National Walk To School Day. Although we live two blocks away, the kids really enjoy meeting up with Coach Hall, their PE teacher, and the other kids from Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School in the zoo Atlanta parking lot to walk en masse to school.  It is about a mile for us  total and we have to go down a hill and back up another to get to the school. It was 28 degrees F during our walk and started to snow! So the kids really did walk a mile, uphill, in the snow to get to school. Sorry I didn't take a picture but with Garvin and the dogs I didn't have enough arms.

Peek a boo with Stone Owl

Garvin wanted to play peek a boo with this stone owl

Dr. Seuss Day...time to wear those pants.

For Christmas 2014, each kid (niece, nephew, godchild, kid, dogs) got a book and a skirt or pants with those illustrations on the fabric.  Here are Rybolt's pants that he is going to wear for Dr. Seuss Day!

Here is Baikal wearing her Harry Potter skirt.
